Garden Development Intern-Highland Middle School

Directly Reports to:  Garden Program Specialist

Minimum number of hours required: 120 

Job Description: 

Overview:  This position will work with the Garden Program Specialist, other DGS interns and volunteers to maintain the gardens and greenhouse at Highland Middle School and assist with the teaching of garden-based science lessons to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Delta Garden Study gardens integrate organic gardens, greenhouses, rainwater harvesting systems, vermiculture, season extension and chickens into productive learning laboratories that the Garden Program Specialists can use to deliver the science based curriculum developed by DGS staff.   

Garden Development Intern-Marshall High School

Directly Reports to:  Garden Program Specialist

Garden Development Intern-Monticello Middle School

Overview:  This position will work with the Garden Program Specialist, other DGS interns and volunteers to maintain the gardens and greenhouse at Monticello Middle School and assist with the teaching of garden-based science lessons to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Delta Garden Study gardens integrate organic gardens, greenhouses, rainwater harvesting systems, vermiculture, season extension and chickens into productive learning laboratories that the Garden Program Specialists can use to deliver the science based curriculum developed by DGS staff.   

Organizational Development Intern

Directly Reports to:  Organizational Development Manager in the UAMS Office of Human ResourcesCoordinator 

Minimum number of hours required:  80 

Job Description: 

Overview:  This intern will assist with training and staff development duties in the Office of Human Resources Organizational Development department.  

Responsibilities and potential projects include:  Coordination of newly launched UAMS Employee Suggestion Program including database management and project management. Other responsibilities may include assistance with Leadership Institute projects and training sessions and coordination of OD’s training programs. This may include logistics planning, location scheduling, setup, ordering food, developing materials, making copies and organizing materials.   

Farm to School Intern

Job Description: 

Overview:  This intern will work with the program development coordinator to build capacity for an Arkansas farm to school network as part of a USDA research initiative.  

Responsibilities and potential projects include:  Assist planning educational farm, distribution center and processing facility tours for school foodservice workers, research farm to school related topics and draft content for newsletters and websites, work with schools to integrate school garden produce into school foodservice, and attend community meetings.   

Intervention Implementation Intern

Job Description: 

Overview:  This position will assist the Intervention Program Manager in preparation for the launch of the Delta Garden Study’s full-scale intervention in four new middle schools in the north and south eastern parts of the state in Fall 2011.  

Responsibilities and potential projects include:  Preparation and assimilation of curriculum materials for middle school teachers and students; development of tools to better foster communication, streamline administrative tasks, and conduct community outreach; write and edit stories for our online newsletter; assistance with school garden development and maintenance; communication with school administrators, faculty and staff 

Curriculum/Nutrition Intern

Directly Reports to:  Curriculum Development Manager  

Minimum number of hours required:  120  

Job Description:  

Overview:  This intern will assist the Curriculum Development Manager in all aspects of the Delta Garden Study Curriculum Development.  

Responsibilities and potential projects include:  Tasks could include: editing lessons, research, writing, brainstorming ideas, assistance with presentations and teacher trainings, developing materials lists, developing process evaluations and quizzes etc. This intern will also have an opportunity to work with a Registered Dietitian on nutrition fact sheets, recipes and recipe analysis, 24-hour recall and other nutrition related tasks.   

Garden Development Intern  

Direct Supervisor Title:  Garden Development Coordinator

Job Description:  

Overview:  This position will work with the Garden Development Coordinator and the Garden Program Specialists to develop four new school gardens during Summer 2011. Delta Garden Study gardens will integrate organic gardens, greenhouses, rainwater harvesting systems, vermiculture, season extension and chickens into productive learning laboratories that the Garden Program Specialists can use to deliver the science based curriculum. This position will participate in project design, implementation and management of the new Delta Garden Study gardens. Three of the schools will be located in Northeast Arkansas. One will be located in Southeast Arkansas.

DGS Data Team Intern

Directly Report to: Manager of Data Processes 

Minimum number of hours required: 80 hours 

Job Description:  

Overview:  This intern will assist with all data related activities, (including but not limited to data entry, data collection and data processing) with the Delta Garden Study and other working projects.
